Well, that's the way of the world: posting what games I'm in for ACNW. Ubergood haul. Lessee....

------------
1. The Guns of Abalaa, run by Mike S, me, and John N
This will be kickass. So far I'd like to thank [livejournal.com profile] blue_monsta, champeen of getting stuff back to us; followed by [livejournal.com profile] lizhenry.

2. Through the Door With a Gun, run by me
Kickass group of players here! Andy R, Thaddeus R, [livejournal.com profile] cochese, [livejournal.com profile] drusni, and [livejournal.com profile] greyshade1. Yay!

3. NINF - Breaking and Exiting, run by Sara M
Yay! A Sara M game! For which a character hovers in my mind! Thinking up character stuff is like eating cake and sipping coffee. Happy humming, is what I'm saying.

4. Sunshine and Light, run by Stephanie I
I love playing with Stephanie I and this really looks like it'll go all kinds of sideways in a delightful manner. Waiting to be ambushed by character idea.

5. Spirit of Amber, run by Randy T
I was really happy to see that I'd gotten into this. Back in touch with the Colorado crowd! More experience with SotC! Also, a character is agglutinating in my head. Horrible mashup of homical-Random/Avatar: the Last Airbender/cybersteampunk. I love Amber, that such things are plausible.

6. Wands of Avalon, run by Mickey S
I'm reeeally leaning towards Slytherin, for some reason. (Oh, ok, I admit it, I like Snape.) (I mean, who doesn't like Snape?)

7. Spontaneous Flexible RP Fun!, run by [livejournal.com profile] karjack
Also, seriously, I pick by GM a lot (in fact, for all of these), and this is super. [livejournal.com profile] karjack, I may take a bit to get genre suggestions to you, as I chew over what strikes my fancy... Though I could always do with some more LeCarre, bitter spies who have given all they are for something they come to feel is worthless... Or musicals. I've always wanted to play in a musical game. You know we could do it. I'm bringing scotch. Though it's possible it'll get polished off in slot 2, since what do hardboiled detectives do but start drinking at 9 in the morning. Method!, I tell you. (Maybe I'll take the excuse and bring two bottles.) Anyway, all the spontaneous games I've played in have been great, so yay.

I note that it's a heavily female crowd of GMs. Cool, that. :D

Wow. I've never played Amber. But I dropped Scott off at ACNW once. This sounds like fun.

It really, really is. ACNW has an ambiance that sticks with you. Friendly people, good gamers; multiple bars on site, damp weather, pipes painted like jesters, scents of coffee and hops... It might still be possible to sign up, though it might be too late.

I can't afford it, either the time away from work or the expense, at this point. At least not this year. Maybe next year.
Plus, I'd need enough time to read the Amber books.

You don't need to read the Amber books. Well reading the RPG books but not Nine Princes et al. I played Amber for many years that way.

Hrmmm. That would speed the process considerably.

I recommend reading the first book (Nine Princes in Amber), but not the rules, unless you are into rpgs.

Well, if the object was to gear up for AmberCon NW, I figure I could at least skim the rule book. (:

It's pretty good as rulebooks go: readable, lots of examples of in-play dialog. But it's kind of a historical document these days... A lot of Amber is just run systemless, with some stats to get an idea of how people stack up. I think Arref's right, with the "read the first book" which is very Chandler-crossed-with-fantasy, and then you're pretty much set.

BTW, Scott who?

If you knew him, that would be cool. I have a very high opinion of him. His name is R. Scott Shanks, and I don't know if he still attends but he was quite fond of both the weekend and the venue.

Oh, you sweet talker.

I'm Scott, but I haven't been able to scramble time and $$ at the same time to manage ACNW again since my first time. But -- BUT -- my new job and new location (PDX) will provide both of those valuable commodities, and I have high hopes for ACNW 2008.

come back! we still exist!

Good! Keep existing. There is no higher calling than to remain extant against my future need of your presence.

You could, yes. But a GM can explain the rules in about 5 minutes. And then you can explore from your PC's point of view.

Others may disagree, but this is how I've introduced lots of folks to Amber Diceless.

I'm pretty flexible. (: I just would hate, in a setting like a Con, to be the one who derailed the game because I was lacking in knowledge. It sounds like that would not be an issue.

Ack! Didn't notice. Anyway, it was an entry about the Cardboard Tube Fighting League, and their next event in SF.

Yay, we're in NINF together!

Date: 2007-10-13 05:30 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] zdashamber.livejournal.com
Yay indeed! Any niches in NINF that you'd like to see filled? The character idea I have is fluid enough at this point to aim towards the general feel of the game...

It's hard to say, niche-wise, since the players and characters vary from game to game. My character is Lilith, the Hendrake daughter of Benedict, if that helps.
