Room for Ambercon Northwest

Bah! I find that many of the tastiest options for rooms for ACNW have sold out. I hadn't thought I was so last-minute-y. Perhaps my relentless campaign of ACNW-pimping has paid off.
Is it back to the hostel for me? I'm accustomed to drunk and/or crazy people arguing with each other while I'm trying to sleep, but it might be nice to get away from that on vacation. Still, it would give me an excuse to finally buy a 4" battery-powered Deco Cube, which I consider every year around this time for this reason...
Actually, I haven't pimped ACNW on here, yet. Ambercon Northwest is the best gaming con I've ever heard of. It's got a location that breathes atmosphere comfortably and fragrantly. It's got clever, friendly, sociable gamers. It's mostly Amber or diceless, but there's a pretty even smattering of other games. It's in Portland, OR, from November 2-5 this year.

I'm on the Southwest mailing list, and today they say until August 31st they are offering San Jose/Oakland-->Portland tickets for $79 each way, which is about as cheap as it gets. The link is here:

I figure if you didn't know about it, I'd let you know that this is a great opportunity to go to Ambercon Northwest, which runs November 2nd-5th this year. It has 7 pre-scheduled slots over the weekend, about 100 people, and a lot of very good gamers. Most of what is run is Amber, but there are generally enough non-Amber games that you can play one every slot if you like. Here's the game book for last year, if you want to get an idea of what sorts of games get offered:

The venue is sooo excellent. A converted workhouse, brick, covered inside with surrealist paintings on the walls and pipes; smells like fall and coffee and hops from the on-site brewery or wine from the on-site vineyards. You can watch movies or get massages if you don't want to play games. And there are maaany tasty drinks.

The $99 for the con immediately gives you back $60 for food, and if you're strapped for cash you can get a bed in the hostel for $30, and public transit takes you right from the airport to the hotel... So I guess the cheapest you can do it is still more than $400, but it certainly is a great deal of fun for the price.
