Lot of walking, lot of driving
Mar. 20th, 2006 12:14 amToo much goddamn walking. Well. Perhaps I will put off for a few more years the big wiggly bottom that is my inheritance. ;)
So, my sister and brother-in-law are in town. This is the first break I've had to write in awhile. They came in Friday, but before that there was preparation. For one thing, I'm trading cars with the the greatly-generous-of-spirit
motleypolitico, since mine has only two seats. (His car is comfy to drive, too!) My car was coming up on its 3rd oil change, so I went and got that out of the way Wednesday. The shuttle from Honda of Oakland dropped me at work, but wouldn't pick me up past 5, so instead of skiving off, I'm like, "Oh, hey, it's only a few miles, I can just walk..."
Friday with the driving up to eat with Sam and Marisa, then the driving down to swap cars with Dave and chat with Dave and Mary, then the picking up of sister and brother-in-law, which sounds way more clinical than is reality, I think I'd run family relations with prefixes a la "em-brother" for "brother-by-marriage", though I haven't yet sorted how I'd do "maternal" vs "marriage", eg is the wife of your mom's brother your em-em-aunt? Perhaps ma-em-aunt. Perhaps I should do the maternal and paternal line as suffixes? Nah, makes more sense to do marriage/blending as suffixes. Hm. I'll let you know when I've worked out something correct.
Let's just skip to Saturday when we walked all over Japantown, and then the real kicker, walked miles through Land's End in an attempt to find a beach. Just south of Cliff House is apparently miles of sandy beach. Yeah yeah yeah. What the hell, you come to the Pacific and want to go to the beach? Have you learned nothing from the lesson of Ed Gruberman?
Anyway, then driving back down to San Jose, then driving up again, then another night of 4-5 hours of sleep, then driving to San Leandro and depositing one (1)
obadiah at the San Francisco airport, then back to Oakland, then to the In-N-Out in Pinole, then to Ikea, thence a hell of a lot more walking around interspersed by lying on nice soft mattresses (well, not really, am I the only one on the planet who likes some give to my bed?).
It's been real. :)
