It's a bad idea to wear garbage bags in any case... They're hot and clingy and smell bad. But if you for some fool reason decide to include them as part of a costume, make damn sure it's a costume that calls for dark brown. Because spraypainting garbage bags results in tiny flecks of paint that pop off and get absolutely everywhere and stick to everything.
In high school I made a costume at the last minute, a green seaweed-like alien carrying my head in a jar. The alien was skinned with spraypainted garbage bags. I went to school in one car and came back in another. The last we saw of flecks of green paint was when we sold those cars, years later.
This comes to mind because I have a pair of big padded headphones given to me about a dozen years ago. They were covered with fake leather. I took them with my new laptop home to Colorado. In those years, the fake black leather look over the foam of the headphones failed structurally. Flecks of black paint in my ears. Flecks of black paint on my laptop. Flecks of black paint on every damn thing that made the trip with me.
Terrible, terrible flashbacks. ;)
