...To point you all to my favorite Vorkosigan filk ever:

Simon Illyan's watching you

I love it for the last verse:
He never forgets, he never forgives,
He knows what you think
and he knows where you live.
Simon Illyan's watching you all.
It is, in fact, my favorite ever filk of a Christmas song. For the implacability, and for Simon himself... I adore quiet competent characters who Get The Job Done and don't raise a stink. And I love the way Bujold made him more than that.

Evgeni Plushenko with a pop star

He's the guy I'd say most has a lost-puppy-dog expression; he's not particularly tall; and he's Russian. All he has to do is dye his hair mousy-brown.

Nice icon. ;)

Yeah, now that I think about it, Bujold is my favorite Science Fiction author. These days I read books and I think, "Why can't you be more like Lois McMaster Bujold?"

Rumor in the MFU fan community is that he's a thinly disguised Illya Kuryakin. *g*

*g* of course, I have a pet theory (which even [livejournal.com profile] skzbrust likes) that Corwin and Random are Sekritly Napoleon and Illya.

It's The Men From UNCLE in King Arthur's Court!

Time period's just about right, anyway.

Well, Illya Kuryakin looks enough like Evgeni Plushenko that I'd buy it... ;)

Seriously, is there some cheap way to test out Man From U.N.C.L.E.? I stare at your icons, I read a tiny bit of slash, I'm intrigued. I wonder if the library has DVDs?

Alas, there are no "real" DVDs (First season 2006, we are assured.)

However, comma, there is this:

http://partnermine.luminousbeings.net/library.html

...tell Irene you're a friend of mine when you email. *g* She and I are buds.

I'd recommend these episodes as the best, for a blend of the show at its campiest and at its most serious:

B&W
Brain Killer Affair
Quadripartite Affair & Giuoco Piano Affair (two-parter)
Project Strigas Affair (Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner! Ickle babies!)
Terbuf Affair (this is the one with the infamous body cavity search joke. *g*)
Fiddlesticks Affair
Secret Sceptre Affair
Mad MAD Tea Party Affair
Bow-Wow Affair
Four Steps Affair
See Paris and Die Affair
Never Never Affair
Odd Man Affair

color:
Recollectors Affair
Children's Day Affair
Adriatic Express Affair
Birds and Bees Affair
Waverly Ring Affair
Nowhere Affair
Her Master's Voice
Candidate's Wife Affair
Do-It-Yourself-Dreadful Affair (Written by Harlan Ellison)
Concrete Overcoat Affair, Part I
Concrete Overcoat Affair, Part II
Pieces of Fate Affair (Written by Harlan Ellison)
Hot Number Affair (Guest stars Sonny & Cher. And is bizarrely funny.)
When in Roma Affair
"J" for Judas Affair
Thrush Roulette Affair
Master's Touch Affair
Summit Five Affair
Maze Affair
Deep Six Affair
Survival School Affair
Gurnius Affair

The *worst* episodes are pretty generally agreed to be "The Indian Affairs Affair" and "The My Friend The Gorilla Affair" (Which is easily as bad as "Spock's Brain," to give you some perspective.

Also, there's a fairly large slash archive here--

http://chromeandgunmetal.com/chrome/

which includes the work of some people who I know through the fandom (Kellie Matthews, Cord Smithee, Lee the T, Keelywolfe, Nix, and Nataliya) who --if you read around the smut-- do a pretty good job of capturing the vibe. I particularly like Lee's Napoleon (she nails the voice) and Kellie's banter.

(This is about the only show I watch that I can actually read slash for, because the flirtatious vibe between the male leads is strong enough that I can buy it. Thus my story "Botticelli," (http://trashotron.com/agony/fiction/bear-botticelli.htm)actually--it's sort of meta-slash, where I was trying to write a story based entirely on fanon. *g*

Interesting exercise, anyway.
