Perhaps I think along slightly different paths than most people, or perhaps it's just that I open my mouth and let others know... But I'm learning not to fill people in on the poetic metaphors they touch off in my head. 'Cuz it's not ever "lips like roses."

Like, just this evening, I resisted telling a guy that he smelled like a library book.

Because, see, I like library books. But if I explain myself? "I worked in a library once, and in the morning I'd go collect the drifts of books that came in the night-deposit slot, and they smelled like books but also like library rebindings and plastic and sticky-little-kid hands and minivans and heat..." It's not necessarily a compliment, hej?

Very neat aspect of the guy, though.

Aw. I could find that romantic. Perhaps the trick is writing it down, so it doesn't seem like an off-the-cuff thing, but instead the product of long inscrutable pondering.
