What do I bother year after year to write on my calendar for March?

2nd: Dr. Seuss's Birthday (1904)

6th: My Birthday!

14th: Pi Day
Albert Einstein's Birthday

17th: Festival of Eros

20th: Vernal Equinox

23rd: Charter Day

25th: Erick Wujcik Day

30th: Vincent Van Gogh's Birthday (1853)

Pi day: C'mon, folks, this is obvious. Reminds me of last year when I was waiting in line for "Spider-man 2" (best movie of 2004!) with Silent E and Rezaul. Rezaul glanced at his watch, grinned, and showed us: 9:11.
Me: "Yeah, I hate that. Comes around twice a day and you're awake for both of them... Not like 3:14."
Rezaul: "3:14?"
E and I: glance at each other, grinning.

The traditional celebration is to bake a pie. I suppose you could feed it to only people who could figure its circumference...

The Festival of Eros: At Berkeley, I took a really excellent class on Ancient Greek Religion. One of our handouts was of the major holidays, and I took the liberty of noting the ones I might find myself celebrating. Now, unfortunately, the ancient Greeks had a lunar calendar (I think adjusted somehow, so the holidays were always at roughly the same time of the year), and I didn't hit on the idea of counting from Jewish holidays for some years (I'd been counting from local moon phases), so one of these days I'll have to go find the handout and re-center... Still, I figure the gods will still be pleased even if I'm a bit off on the dates.

Charter Day: A UC Berkeley holiday wherein free cake appears in the courtyard out front of Dwinelle around 1:00. Mmmmm. Free cake.

Erick Wujcik Day: The day the news came to the Amberlist that Erick Wujcik had agreed to pass on the ADRPG license to the folks from Guardians of Order. I'm the inventor and keeper of this holiday, but by gum, it's worth celebrating! So those of you blessed with the holy presence of the Amberlist, be warned: a paen to Erick will be coming.

Festival of Eros, huh? Swell. Another holiday that will be depressing. I suppose the good news is that it will fall on St Patrick's day and alcohol will be free flowing.

There's a "driven all the snakes out of" joke I'm not making here. :)
