Spring Log 1
Feb. 19th, 2004 12:34 amSome of you may remember that I was unable, last year, to find someplace that listed what flowers bloomed when. So I figured, now that I have a digital camera and a LJ, I might as well do it myself... And perhaps this will bring happiness to those of you that live in places far from Oakland, where it's still winter.
The first flowers I noticed this year were the ones that grow from bulbs in my front yard, hairbell-looking white flowers (with tiny green dots around the edge) with glossy onion-like leaves and a light narcissus-like scent. They must have been blooming for about the past month... Since they started in winter, though, I don't feel too bad about failing to note them precisely for the springlog. This morning, they were getting sparse.
For me, it was the scent of the plum blossoms that made it clear that we'd reached another spring... It would be about the 4th of February that I first saw them. I took this photo this morning, after a few days of very solid rain, and today (well, the 18th) is the first day that I've noticed the plum leaves beginning to show.
Around the 11th the first of my daffodils opened up, and a couple days ago it was joined by the other 4 in this bunch... They all fell over about that time, too. I don't know if it was natural, or caused by the rain, or caused by the paperboy.
