So, I happen to be browsing eBay to find a black derby hat. Curious, I click through an auction to "Vintage Cast Aluminium Derby Hat" (I mean, wouldn't you?). Instant thought, That's a Homburg. I check out another auction that advertises a Derby-style hat with a vintage plume... That's not a Derby, that's a cloche.

Honestly, people!

On the other hand, I've managed to make my own felt or crocheted berets, and I do have a few jester caps I've sewn. I've also woven (although not underwater) a couple of grass hats. Everything else is gravy.

Well, not gravy. Ick.

Now, making your own hats--that really is neat.

I'm lucky to live in a hat-enabled city, but even so, I never managed to find a sage green fedora to go with that greenish-grey greatcoat I always wore... Then the pockets wore through, and the coat finally went away deep into closet storage. Perhaps one day I'll stick articulated wings on it.

Gravy would indeed be grave.
