If you click on someone's name you can see their info and anyone can put whatever information they want. The format is entirely customizable. It is pretty nifty, not worse than a sig, just different.

Yep, I've noticed that. I think it is a little worse than a sig when it comes to connecting people because it requires an extra step; it's not spontaneous, the information is not laid out there for all to see. If you looked at the number of people who have filled in info in their little namebox I suspect you'd find it's less than the number of people who have sigs on other boards, which is a direct measure of the value they place on namebox self-advertising.

But you weren't in their office. You were in Vincent's living room.

A better analogy is the one I implied above, that of small groups talking in the company lunchroom. A living room, no one's going to be in it unless Vincent invites them in because he knows them and is friendly with them. The internet equivalent would be a private mailing list. Whereas with a blog, while it has the flavor of the person who runs it, anyone can and often does wander by.

Why is penis a dirty word?

Well, you'd have to ask the parent of a first grader that... ;)

Naw, seriously. Following from the discussion (http://lordsmerf.livejournal.com/120143.html?view=151887) I had with Thomas [livejournal.com profile] lordsmerf, "penis" is a specifically male word, and so using it in gaming discussions divides the gaming world into "male" and "female" camps. And since the female camp is underrepresented, that's not real welcoming for the people in it.

We are supposed to be a gentleman, not a eunuch.

A gentleman does not tell women that everything he does with them has sexual undertones.
