He tends to call when I'm in the middle of a book, see. And you know, I often read instead of eating. And even if I had blood sugar, y'know, mind thoroughly blended in to some story...

Like when he was asking about the PenSFA party at [livejournal.com profile] jhkim and [livejournal.com profile] lizhenry's house, and I was warning him about their two cats since he has allergies,

Me: "But it might not be such a problem, since they're ...small... ...furred."
[livejournal.com profile] obadiah: "Short-haired?"
Me: "Um, yeah. Something like that."

Or, most recently, when he called to ask if I was free to see Curse of the Were Rabbit Sunday, and we bemoaned the unlikliness of meeting in October:

Me: "Yeah, I pretty much figured you'd be out for almost all of October what with all the holidays. Maybe I can come sit in your ...hutch... with you on Happy Hutch Days."
[livejournal.com profile] obadiah: "... ...'Happy Hutch Days'?"
Me: "...Um... I can't remember the term. You build the thing? And eat in it? It's a harvest festival?"

I felt particularly embarassed about that. I mean, I'd specifically looked up the whole set of Jewish holidays we're in presently over at Judaism 101. I'd given a whole lecture about the Days of Awe to my labmates en route to lab meeting Thursday when they came by my desk and said, "Madeline! Give us a lecture!"

Yes, I swear to god, those were a coworker's actual words.

Anyway, mind ticking down the options, "Shabbat, wrong; shofar, wrong; Sokar, Wrong! This is hopeless, is there a better term than 'hutch'? Um... Aaa!" And what jewfaq says in the Sukkot introductory paragraph is, "Sukkot is so unreservedly joyful that it is commonly referred to in Jewish prayer and literature as Z'man Simchateinu , the Season of our Rejoicing."

Anyway, sorry, Cliff. :)
