High school music meme

My dad listened only to non-violin classical and bluegrass. My mom listened to NPR. Growing up, I always said my favorite band was the Beatles, since I could remember the name of the band because they were like bug cars (and we sang "Yellow Submarine" in elementary school). In middle school I made a concerted effort to join society and start listening to the radio. In about a year I discovered the classic rock and oldies stations, and since modern music was generally crap, I didn't look back for a long, long time.
I feel that, given that 90% of everything is crap, maybe 1 of 10 songs in the top ten are decent, and those are played so much by "modern" stations you begin to hate even them. Classic rock filters out a bunch of the shit and mixes the remainder up a hell of a lot more. I've looked with far more fondness on the lists some of you guys from the 70s and 80s dragged up...
