So, what up? Well, for one thing, "what up" seems to just pop out of my mouth naturally. I'm probably getting old and saying things like, "My, the new sound from 'Pink Floid' certainly is the cat's pajamas!"

Actually, life has been pretty damn good lately. Last Friday I drove down to LA with Silent E, met up with Ian of cthb.org, and drove off to Las Vegas to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] tragic_glass and [livejournal.com profile] matociquala. The illness that had flattened me at the beginning of that week lashed out in one final dying blow and nearly took out my voice, so I croaked oddly the entire time I was in Vegas, and was unable to sing along with Ian and the ipod in the car. Very sad.

We saw Hitchhiker's, which didn't screw it up. I really loved Ford Prefect. Then, at 3 in the morning, we went to a restaurant for steak, which is one of the good things about Vegas...

Saturday, we scouted the potential future site of AmberCon Las Vegas. It's actually pretty good. An Embassy Suites much like the one in Detroit, except with a life-sized painted statue of Elvis in the lobby. And live swans. And koi. And a crapload of food within two blocks, including sushi.

That evening, party at Kindred's place where his friend Dylan made tacos and I got to meet Steve Brust. Steve is a fun guy to hang out with. He reminded me a bit of [livejournal.com profile] iamcompufrog, particularly at one point when he was mentioning controlling computers with punchcards. He and [livejournal.com profile] matociquala had some neat things to say about writing.

Sunday, more hanging out and good food; at one point we stopped by a used bookstore which had a copy of In Nomine, bwahahaha! Thence, back to LA, where Ian and his housemate Henry took E and I out to a "Healthy Desserts" place in Chinatown. Neat! I had something like Mango pudding with mango chunks in it in coconut milk with grapefruit and mashed mango with coconut sorbet on top. Unique and fascinating place.

Monday, bounced arund LA with E in the day, and then had sushi with Ian and Henry in the evening. I can't recommend shrimp sushi. This is my "oh dear god" face, as I remember it. The monkfish liver was actually pretty good, though; sorta like liverwurst.

Tuesday, back up to the Bay Area, making it in time for my Kali class. Thank god, I really needed to wiggle around some after all the driving. I learned that my instructor was one of the Jedi in the big colisseum deathmatch in Episode 2... If anyone has a copy, I'd like to borrow it and go through the frame-by-frame to see her.

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] obadiah called and asked if I wanted to go see Peter Yarrow, from Peter Paul and Mary, and his daughter Bethany, at a benefit concert for a SF GLBT synagogue. It was neat. I think every single song was a singalong, and though I'd sorta thrown out my still-not-absolutely-up-to-snuff voice doing Sweeny Todd in my empty apartment earlier, I did my part... Cliff was super psyched because to sing "Puff, the Magic Dragon," which Peter assured us was not about drugs, Peter and Bethany invited anyone who wanted to up on stage to sing with them. We were in the front row of seats, and Cliff popped up on stage like a cork, got to stand right between them, got hugged by both... Awww.

Tonight, off to a work retreat. Until Tuesday. Ow.
