I think you're sort of a "hub". I was just reading the Scientific American that came today... Lessee: "... certain locations, people, or even molecules with an unusually high number of connections to the rest of the network. The shortest path between any two nodes in a network is typically though one of these hubs ..."

The article's about modeling how anthrax would spread through Portland. :)

Fortunately, the conclusion was that the way people interact in day-to-day life is a lot less hubified than epidemiologists might hope, and we're all pretty closely connected to everyone. (Fortunately for Portland, the conclusion was that almost any quick intervention would save the city.)

No, a true hub is [livejournal.com profile] jonsinger.

The story goes like this: a famous SF editor jumps in a cab and asks the driver to take her to the main WorldCon hotel. The driver notices lots of people waving at the editor as they drive along.

"You know all those people?" asks the driver.

They pull up to a light and the driver decides to test her. He points at a tall, skinny man with long hair and a beard. "So who's that?"

"Jon Singer."

The driver snipes back, "I know fucking Singer. Who's the guy he's talking to?"
