So, I've seen calls for a boycott of everything on the inauguration day of Bush, and a boycott of Republican-donating companies (variously identified) on all days. Poking about a bit more, I see that in addition to not spending anything on January 20th, nor doing any work, it's also suggested that we fast.

There's an interesting opportunity to serve both liberalism and medieval superstition, here: as I mentioned in my calendar entry, January 20th is the Eve of St. Agnes, when unmarried ladies who fast all day will dream that evening of their future husband... Upon further examination of the myth, this dream husband will be known to you because he presents to you a dream feast. So that's alright, then.

Still, I'm not sure if even dream feasts will be enough to convince me to join some liberal crowd in denying myself food for a day. I'm really more the pissing-in-Cheerios type than the fasting-and-praying type.

Speaking of which, I just noticed that it's possible to sign people up to get messages from the President on such occasions as their birthday, their aniversary, or the birth of their child. Good thing I'm not evil...

That's something that would be a hell of a lot of fun to see from whitehouse.org:

"Happy Birthday! We didn't think you'd make it to 80 with those new arsenic and mercury regulations, but I figured I should congratulate you before it's too late!"

"Congratulations on your 14th year of marriage! America salutes you for bravely standing up to the homos!"

"Congratulations on the birth of your child! Know that we here at the White House are doing our best to see that your baby does not have to grow up to fear seeing a wolf or dirtying himself in an old-growth forest—instead, he will have only the finest untested beef and bleached toilet paper! So follow God's directives and have a bunch more!"

Hm. Well, they do have birthday greetings: http://www.whitehouse.org/feedback/birthday.asp

Oh, and for the sake of history, I should point out that the quote in my last post was spoken by Walter Monckton about Edward VIII.
