zdashamber: a blue honda insight (insight)

So, they're in the testing/ordering stage of a cop doodad that fries the computers of modern cars (everything built in the last ten years, as I recall) so they roll, dead, to a halt. I just got a mental image of a scene in a movie where the cops use this on a fleeing Insight, causing an unexpected huge sparking explosion, from which leaps the driver in a terrifying fury, with a sword, intending to take forementioned cops apart for fucking up his car...

And I'm wondering, so, he obviously carries the sword in the car, so he'd be interested in weight... Does titanium make good swords?

Yes, we all have our insanities. hee hee hee hee hee...

It is possible to make a sword out of titanium. However, it is dear goddess that's expensive, and it's not going to hold an edge well. Titanium has a far superior strength-to-weight ratio, but take into account that it's far, far lighter than hardened steel. At a size appropriate for a blade, it's actually softer than the same size hardened steel. There's a nifty article discussing titanium alloys' application in knifemaking here (http://www.swordforum.com/metallurgy/titanium.html).

Brilliant! Now I've got a very FGI (http://www.fuckinggoogleit.com/) look on my face... Thanks for bearing with me and pointing me at that page/forum. It looks to be completely fascinating.
