Jan. 25th, 2005 10:06 pmThis evening I got to pay back past aid directly, when as I was getting out of my car two guys were trying to push their dead truck over the peak of the street! Yay! I think they were a bit weirded out by a white girl in a camel peacoat joining the car-pushing, but they were gracious, and I think I did actually provide useful help, so it's all good.
This morning I took the first opportunity to throw out half the plates on which colonies of cells have been growing to occlude the moon. Sweet.
Today I actually brought in tapes to listen to—the boombox in the cell culture room has no antenna (the antenna socket is where we store the cell culture scissors, splayed open with one pointy end poked into the socket, perhaps with the vague hope they'll bring in better reception, perhaps just to have someplace to store them) and is missing the right speaker and has broken buttons... So it uses cassette tapes. So I brought in tapes today, since yesterday after listening to Live 105 for 10 hours I realized that it's like a mix CD; it plays only about 17 songs. It was odd to sit there like, Wait, haven't I heard this already? Yes! I just listened to this like 4 hours ago! Which wasn't so bad, but I wasn't up for 2 days straight of it.
So, anyway, tapes. I haven't really listened to tapes in this millenia. The action of putting a tape in to play was so unfamiliar I had a moment of concern that I'd not remember how. Also, all of my tapes are a frozen slice of what I listened to in the 90s.
Fortunately, since I don't change much, it's all still good. Ace of Base "The Sign"... Supertramp "Breakfast in America"... Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant"... Fiddler on the Roof... Aw, yeah.
