You've almost convinced me to see Fast Five, and I'm very impressed by that. Also, I don't really know what goes in regarding Rio in the film, but the one thing I took away from visiting Brazil a few years ago is that race doesn't matter there. It really, really doesn't, and that was such a brain-buster for me to see in action that I still am somewhat in shock. It was incredibly different than the US, and very refreshing.

Mind you, lots of other things matter there - money, primarily. The divisions between the rich and poor are huge, and some folks say that Brazil is a pretty good place to look if you want to see what it'll be like here in the US in 20 years.

Also, I'm psyched that you're watching I Spy. It's easily one of my favorite TV shows ever. There's a number of things I love about it, most obviously that it has a black man in a leading role (a first, incidentally, for a tv show at the time) and it's far more progressive views on race than just about anything else at the time. But also that it was filmed on location - in other words, when you see street scenes of them in Hong Kong, or even locations, those are really in Hong Kong in 1965.

Also, I'm in love with 60s design...the Case Study Houses, Charles and Ray Eames, "mid-century modernism", and especially the fashion. I really wish I could find knitwear like the stuff that Kelly and Scotty sport. And, yeah, the tech - one of these days, I'm getting a PDP-7 minicomputer.
